Challenge Grant Achieved for the New Shade Shelter
We are ecstatic to share that we have been able to raise a total of $36,000 for our new shade shelter thanks to a challenge grant from a generous donor!
We successfully raised $11,000 between December 2021 and April 2022 in order to meet a $7,500 matching grant challenge. The majority of the $11,000 raised came from one major donor and was supplemented by numerous smaller donations as well.
This shade shelter will not only provide much-needed shade, but also offer a gathering place to cool off and make new friends. It will feature natural colors to blend in with its surroundings and will be located near to the 3 dog water fountains.
We are so grateful to our donors who made this shade structure possible! We couldn’t have done this without their immense generosity and kindness.
We are very excited and look forward to sharing the shade with you and your pups very soon!
Thank you for your continued support of our beloved Dog Park.

$20,000 Matching Gift Challenge for Small Dog Park Area
We are very excited to announce a $20,000 Matching Gift Challenge for the dedicated small dog park area. Barbara McIntyre, a generous dog park patron who recently passed away, made an altruistic donation for the installation of a fence to create a dedicated small dog park area near the small parking lot.
This donor will match dollar for dollar up to $20,000 to make enhancements to the small dog park area including small shade structures, benches, dog watering fountains, pet-grass area, solar powered lights, an agility course, poop bag dispensers, and signage. This challenge is effective immediately. Please join us in meeting this challenge.

MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR BILL THORNTON
Due to the current challenges related to the corona virus, the memorial service for Bill Thornton has been postponed until further notice. As soon as an alternate date has been determined, we will share the details with you. In lieu of flowers, Bill requested donations be made to the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet or the Santa Fe Animal Shelter. OUR REMEMBRANCE OF BILL It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of William “Bill” Thornton who you will remember as beautiful Bette’s dad! Bill left us on Saturday night, December 14th after a short and rather unexpected illness. Bill has been an ardent supporter of our Dog Park Project. Bill is the benefactor of three dog water fountains soon to be installed at the park. Bill was a daily visitor with his dog Bette whose clear passion in life is to chase bright orange balls with squeakers into the Chamisa patches around the park before taking her “throne” under one particular bush opposite a table and park bench in order to keep an eye on Bill’s movements and next big ball toss. Along with our doggie friend, Bette, we will all sorely miss Bill and his unfailing cheerful, positive demeanor. He always had a kind word for all. Should anyone feel so inclined, a donation in Bill’s name to The Dog Park Project or Santa Fe Animal Shelter of which he was a board member, would be a terrific remembrance in his honor. Rest in peace, good friend. |
WILLIAM F. TOLBERT, 69, of Santa Fe, New Mexico, died Thursday, November 14, 2019 at University Hospital in Albuquerque. He was born March 3, 1950 in Wheeling, West Virginia, to the late William "Dutch" and Virginia Albert Tolbert. He was preceded in death by his son, William "Brian" Tolbert. Bill is survived by his wife of 41 years, Carol; his two daughters, Belinda Gray and Kathryn Tolbert of Bardstown, KY; his five grandchildren, Destiny, Taylor, Jacob, Justin, and Dustin; his great-granddaughter, Kinlee; his brother Edward (Sandra) Hurt of Virginia Beach, VA, his uncle Rev. Sherwood (Kathleen) Smith) of Lynchburg, VA; and his beloved black lab, Bella. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends. He was a newspaper writer and editor, a drummer, a softball player, a golfer and a dog lover. He was a devoted fan of the Yankees and Cowboys. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a friend to all who knew him. Respecting Bills wishes, there will not be a memorial service. In lieu of flowers, we would like to purchase a memorial bench at Bill's favorite dog park. If you are interested in contributing, checks can be made payable to: The Dog Park Project, C/O Bill Tolbert, 369 Montezuma Ave #131, Santa Fe, NM 87501 |
